The Limmat flows off Zürichsee, where it's been warming up all spring, and you can jump in and float down for a few hundred meters, or swim across to the other side.

The water is deep, but practically clear. It's perfect for this 30oC heat!

10:59 am - I live in Switzerland now.
i'm not angry about anything anymore, things here are too good.

It's been one week and thirteen hours since i moved to Switzerland and i'm still almost uncomfortably excited. I just set up the modem in our new apartment and feel like there's a lot i should be catching up on, but there's also the sunshine outside and a lake to swim in, and my first day of work as a PhD student begins in 3 hours.

12:23 am - Tuesday
i've been distracted from getting angry this week, but something that did bother me was waking up on maybe Tuesday listening to radio 4 and their coverage of the save the children report on abuse by aid workers detailed here: http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/en/41_5708.htm

What annoys me about the coverage of this sort of thing is that people are still acting surprised! What is surprising? Such a ridiculously high proportion of children are abused here, why should men in power under "aid" circumstances act any differently?

We just know this already. It's not just the odd few on the sex offenders list, a considerable proportion of men abuse children. it's men you know for christsakes, and it's highly statistically likely that several of your friends, family and colleagues will have been abused as children. the chances of you not coming into contact on a regular basis with a sex offender or survivor of some kind of child abuse are so slim that it makes this kind of "no, really?" coverage almost unbearable! Tiresome! Get a clue!

I hate that people still consider sex abuse as something done by a few, under socialised men - when it occurs so frequently that it is clearly a societal problem.

In the UK about 1 in 6 children are sexually abused. 1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted within their lifetime... and yet only about 5% of rape allegations end in sentencing because people just don't feel able to label men with the term "rapist" unless they can be totally positive about, firstly, precisely what went on, and secondly how they feel about the victim, but really.... in these allegations the chance of the women lying is SO RIDICULOUSLY SLIM, but the chance that any man has an will rape is RIDICULOUSLY HIGH.

Sorry that this is an especially horribly written post which doesn't do the issue justice, now i'm feeling angry again.
